Boston Assemblies begin.

The formal annual balls, attended by members of Boston society, are held initially in Papanti’s Ballroom. Run by businessman S. Hooper Hooper by the late 19th century, they are subsequently held in Horticultural Hall, the Mechanics Building, Copley Hall, and finally the Hotel Somerset. The events continue until just before World War I.
